Book highlighting social issues launched
By ANNE HASLAM
The book co-authored by Ahmad Zharuddin Sani Ahmad Sabri,
head of Nationhood Unit, Department of General Studies, Universiti Utara
Malaysia and Puteri UMNO Kedah chief Shahanim Mohammad Yusoff, aims to create a
better understanding on social issues so that the people can exercise their
responsibilities as citizens better.
The book highlights issues on the economy, environment,
health, education, tourism, sports, youth, international relations as well as
issues on conflict and peace.
“Through education, we want to create a positive mindset to
combat the negative elements.
“We hope to work with Puteri UMNO and use the book to address
some issues that people, in particular the youth, are facing,” said Ahmad.
He said the book, in its 6th edition, was being updated every
three months to accommodate new facts.
He said that it would be used as reference in universities
and other institutions of higher learning.
It will also be sent to all state libraries and can be
purchased online at www.humancapital.ws.
Earlier, Kedah executive councillor for education and human
capital Datuk Azimi Daim, launched the book and officiated at the opening of
Edulogic, a group organising camps for children.
He said people needed to be open-minded to learn the skills
needed to develop a positive and healthy mindset.
“Prevention is better than cure. However, it is sad that many
people view these soft skills as costly to learn.
“When they are influenced by negative elements, we have to
rehabilitate them and the cost of rehabilitation is high,” he said.
